Are UFO Abductors Time Travellers?

The following, highly speculative, article offers an alternative view to the classic scenario that the Abduction phenomenon must be the result of the actions of extraterrestrial beings. I believe that as yet there is not enough hard data to be able to identify the agent behind abductions. It may well be after extensive investigation that many or all of the abduction cases turn out to be something closer to home such as the witnesses all being fantasy prone individuals, or indeed some other causative agent is identified.

Since the publication of the reports about the abduction of Betty and Barney Hill and of Antonio Vilas Boas in the mid-1960s the abduction of human beings by some mysterious force has gained in prominence. Although these are amongst the most spectacular of UFO reports it must be remembered that they constitute only a small proportion of all UFO reports, maybe only 1 to 2% of the total. Indeed some researchers believe that, since abductions appear to be radically different from other UFO reports, that the only connection they have with UFOs is an accident of history. And since the term Alien actually only means something or somebody in the wrong place, it is not essential that Aliens are extraterrestrial. After all, most governments class people not born in their country as Aliens.

Many researchers who believe that abduction cases are a genuine part of UFO phenomena believe that the force responsible for abductions might be extraterrestrial. Are they correct in this belief? I believe that time travellers could just as well, if not better, explain the evidence available.

One of the features of many abduction reports is missing time. In missing time cases the witness may undertake a task which they know should have taken a well defined time but appears to have taken them much longer for no apparent reason. Consider the Betty and Barney Hill case where they were travelling home from a visit to Canada to their home in New Hampshire. This journey took them around two hours longer than they estimated. Or consider the case of the witness who set off from his home in Northampton to visit a relative in a village around 20 minutes from his home. Along the journey his motorcycle stalled and he observed a strange object hovering over a nearby field. He observed the object for about 5 minutes before it disappeared and his motorcycle restarted. Yet he was over one and a half-hours late arriving at his destination.

Less well known are those abduction cases where the witness undertakes a task, for example goes on a journey, and completes the task in an impossibly short time. Consider the witness who was travelling in his car along the A34 in Berkshire. As he went round a roundabout the 6pm news came on the car radio. He knew that about 1-mile beyond the roundabout he had to turn off the main road and would be at his destination in about half an hour. The radio signal started to break-up; he looked down and tried to re-tune the radio. When he looked back at the road the previous good weather had changed to rain, yet within quarter of a mile or so the rain disappeared and the sky was cloudless. He did not recognise where he was, but then he came upon a road sign. He was still on the main road, about 20 miles beyond his turnoff. Realising he would now be late, he checked the time – it was 6:05pm, in less than 5 minutes he had travelled over 20 miles. There are other similar cases.

Whatever is responsible in these cases seems to be causing a change in the passage of time, either a gain or loss of time. If the force responsible for abductions were extraterrestrial then the ‘Aliens’ would have not only to have overcome the problems of long distance spaceflight but also would have developed some way of manipulating time. Two miracles for the price of one!   If the force responsible for abduction is some form of time travelling being, they would have already conquered time and so the ability to transport somebody backward or forward in time would be second nature.

Some abduction researchers believe that the ‘Aliens’ are visitors from a dying planet who are here to carry out genetic experiments because of weaknesses in their own genetic makeup. It is highly unlikely that any being that evolved entirely separately in a different part of the universe would have biochemistry that is compatible to this degree with our own.

In terms of spaceflight, beings from earth have only made the short hop to visit our moon yet we have made huge strides in recent years in the analysis and understanding of our own genetic makeup and the genetic makeup of many other species on earth. Any race that could undertake long distance interplanetary travel is likely to have made similar advances in other areas of science. They should have the chemical skills to mess around with their own genetic material without contaminating with ours. Even if they were not skilled in biochemistry (in which case they would not need to take samples from humans) much of the material they would be interested in is available in on-line libraries and databases which they could easily tap.

Abduction researchers report that the ‘Aliens’ tend to abduct different members of the same families at different stages of their lives. One of the great fads amongst humans is to try to trace their ancestral lines. If the ‘Aliens’ were just interested in forming a pool of human genetic material probably the abductions would be just random people, not groups within a family. The focusing on particular families suggests more likely an interest in that family with the genes a means of examining the links between individuals.  This kind of behaviour is more typical of somebody trying to trace a (their?) family tree.  Could the ‘Aliens’ be the witness’s decendants come back to trace their roots?

I do not necessarily believe that whatever is the causative agent behind UFO abductions is time travellers, but the above illustrates how much of the same data which is used by researchers to make a case for extraterrestrial aliens can be used to make a case for an alternative hypothesis.  Indeed, we could extend the arguement somewhat.  As stated above, some supporters of the Extra Terrestrial Hypothesis believe that abductions occur for the collection of genetic material.  But what other genetic links could there be?  Some people believe that only some people see UFOs (and by extrapolation ‘Aliens’) because they have some ability or are sensitive in some way which the majority of people are not.  This could well be some form of inherited trait which passes down the genes.  Again, some people have suggested that UFO Abductions could be some previously unrecognised form of psychiatric or neurological disorder.  Again there is a growing body of evidence that many psychological disorders are genetic.

The Roswell Film

Probably the subject of greatest and hottest debate in UFO research at the moment is the alleged footage of the Roswell Incident. But when you talk about the Roswell Film, which one do you mean? I have been able to identify a number of different pieces of film from at least three sources:

  1. Tent Footage 1 – apparent preliminary examination of a body in a tent/shed shown to Reg Presley and some other researchers early 1995, source Ray Santilli
  2. Tent Footage 2 – similar to above, but probably different sequence, shown to BUFORA early 1995, source Ray Santilli
  3. Tent Footage 3 – similar to but different from both above, appears on video Penetrating the Web 2, source Bruce Barlow
  4. Autopsy 1 – autopsy film shown to some researchers in April/May 1995, not shown since, source Ray Santilli
  5. Autopsy 2 – similar, but different from above, widely used in documentaries etc, source Ray Santilli
  6. Wreckage – show apparent control panels and other wreckage filmed inside tent/shed, source Ray Santilli
  7. Hessman’s Footage – undeveloped film given to researcher Michael Hessman by daughter of Roswell airman, little chance of recovering images, source Michael Hessman

And all this does not include the two guys who turned up at Michael Hessman’s conference in Dusseldorf with their Roswell film. They claimed that they had found it amongst other films a girlfriend of one of them had inherited from an uncle. It turned out to be a cheap hoax by a German TV company. (Perhaps they should have contacted Morgana Productions who could have done a much better job for them!)

(As an aside for those who do not know, the Morgana photographs came to light a few days after some of the film held by Ray Santilli and his associates was broadcast world-wide in a series of documentaries. The photographs were of different stages in the construction of a very good replica of the alleged alien shown in the documentaries. In some of the documentaries the view that it would be difficult to make a model alien of that complexity was expressed. The Morgana people set out to show just how easy it was. BUFORA researcher John Spencer investigated these photos and was able to track down the originators. They worked for a small special effects company and said they had made the model using the photographs Ray Santilli had previously made available to newspapers for guidance.)

If UFO researchers are to be believed, the US government had managed to keep most of the information about the Roswell incident secret for nearly 50 years. For the US government to then lose one top secret film would be unfortunate, to lose two films would be careless and to lose three would be incredible. But perhaps people would like us to believe that ‘genuine’ UFO films are like buses – none come along for ages, then three come along together!

Throughout late 1997 and into 1998 a few researchers began to uncover people who said they knew people who had been involved in faking film which sounded very much like the Tent footage described above. Indeed at the BUFORA Research Evening in 1997 a statement was read out to the effect that names of suspected fakers had been passed to BUFORA for investigation.  In the summer of 1998 various researchers went on record naming names. Finally, in January 1999 the people named by the researchers admitted in a Sunday newspaper that they had indeed faked the Tent footage. Where this leaves the rest of the alleged Roswell footage, who knows?

Although there are have been several dozen alleged crashed Flying Saucer recoveries by different governments the important thing to remember about the Roswell incident is that the US Army Air Force put out a press release saying that something had been recovered. So the UFOlogists and the authorities are agreed for once something DID happen at Roswell. It is only about the nature of what happened – crashed balloon or crashed Flying Saucer that they differ.

The Warminster Initiative

Steve Gamble – Director of Research

One of the projects the BUFORA Research team are starting work on is the Warminster Project. BUFORA has run studies in the past which have looked at the Warminster area, so why another Warminster project?

As I have stated previously (Gamble, 1988) it is important to study repeated phenomena. These repeated phenomena may take the form of a witness who has repeat experiences or similar experiences which occur to different witnesses at different times or locations where there are many reports over a period of time. The Warminster area fits into this last category. From the mid-1960s onward there have been many reports from the area around Warminster in Wiltshire. These have been widely discussed elsewhere (for example see Chapman (1969); Paget(1980); Rogers(1994) or Shuttlewood (1967)), so will not be discussed in detail here.

Nigel Stephenson (1966) states “Investigations at Warminster showed that the whole thing had been greatly exaggerated. Even so, there have been more interesting reports in the area of Warminster and Westbury than in other towns of similar population, though this might be accounted for by the excessive publicity to the Warminster “Thing” and the inhabitants’ knowledge of the great interest in it taken by the local paper’s news editor resulting in so many witnesses, as well as hoaxers, coming forward”. I think Nigel’s words are as true today as they were in 1966, there are a lot of reports from Warminster, some exaggerated, some hoaxes but also many intresting reports.

The main events at Warminster started on Christmas eve 1964. These started with a number of incidents of rattling roof tiles and other aerial noises. Recently Robert Bull researching reports from Cambridgeshire has come across a similar report from a similar time period, and I have found another case from the Norfolk area. A wide spectrum of UFOs were reported from Warminster during the rest of the 1960s and throughout the 1970s.

Some of the reports from the area are the result of military exercises which are conducted around Warminster. For example, Ken Phillips investigated a report from the 2nd August 1984 of strange multicoloured lights seen hanging in the sky at around 11pm. These were traced to most probably being due to paracute flares connected with an exercise.

The ‘Thing’ on Film

The Faulkner PhotographPerhaps the most famous of all the reports from the Warminster area is the photograph taken by Gordon Faulkner in 1965 of the so-called “Warminster Thing”. Faulkner said he was leaving the back door of his house at 8:30pm on 29th August 1965 to visit his mother’s house. He had a camera, which he was to give to his sister, with him and was able to take a single picture of the object. This picture was originally published in the local “Warminster Journal” in 1965, was published a few days later in the “Daily Mirror” and subsequently has been widely published in the UFOlogical literature, for example see Spencer (1992) or Rogers (1994).

Stephenson (1966) informs us that “The well-publicised photograph of a domed circular object in the daytime is the only report of this type of object over Warminster, but the rumour that it was a schoolgirl’s hat has not been verified”. This was also a theory subscribed to by Norman Oliver in his 1992 lecture mentioned below. So it can be seen that doubts have been expressed about Faulkner’s photo from early days.

Early in 1992 a gentleman called Roger Hooton came forward and said that he had been involved in faking the photograph (Spencer, 1992). Hooton had moved to Australia a couple of years after the photograph had been taken, but was suprised to find that it was still doing the rounds when he returned to the UK some 25 years later. Hooton said he had contacted John Spencer so he could put the record straight.

In 1994 (Spencer, 1994) John Spencer managed to track down Gordon Faulkner and arranged an interview. Faulkner maintained that he had not faked the photograph and furthermore he did not know Hooton. So the story became even more curious! Over the past year I have been in contact with Stephen Dewey who has recently published the results of his findings on the Faulkner photograph (Dewey, 1995). Dewey tells us that the photograph was faked by Faulkner with help from Bill Newton. He specifically points out that in the story he was told by his informant no mention is made of the involvment of Hooton. In August 1995 Dewey spoke to Faulkner who again denied it was a hoax.

So once more doubt is focussed on the Faulkner photograph. But there are very many more reports from the Warminster area which should not be overshadowed by the truth or otherwise of Gordon Faulkner’s picture. As Norman Oliver said in his lecture at the BUFORA 30th Anniversary Conference in September 1992 “A lot of nonsense has been talked about Warminster, an awful lot of nonsense has been reported from there, but one of the biggest pieces of nonsense is that one faked photograph disproves the whole thing”.

The Warminster project will clearly have overlaps with other parts of the BUFORA Research programme. Some of the reports previously collected have aspects which are similar to poltergeist phenomena. There are also reports of vehicle interference and of strange Ball-Of-Light (BOL) UFOs. If we can establish teams to undertake sky observation, then the Warminster area could be a prime target. In the early 1970s the Bedford UFO Society (later renamed the Extra-Terrestrial Society) maintained an instrumented observation station near Warminster. BUFORA is working on establishing instrumented observation stations. Given the number of reports in the past from the Warminster area, this might be a productive place to establish such a instrumented station.

Yet again I have completely blown the word limit the editor gave me, so I better leave things there. If you feel you can contribute to this, or any other, BUFORA project please contact me.

Tall White Aliens Photo

Beginning in 1956, some 200 people from all walks of life in Europe had extensive interaction with a group of very human-looking aliens called Tall Whites or Nordics; I have included an Tall White Aliens Photo in this post. They included politicians, university professors, engineers, journalists, students and housewives. The level of contact varied from one-time encounters to deep involvement lasting over 40 years. Some of those involved entered underground and undersea alien bases for days at a time.

tall white aliens photo

Others entered and even flew in their craft. Over the years, hundreds of clear photographs, voice recordings and movies were taken, featuring some of the visitors themselves, but scores of these have been lost or are unavailable.

Because of the intense feelings of friendship engendered by the aliens in all whom they met, the name tall whites has come to be the principal one used for the overall contact experience. Spontaneously, people in other European countries used this same term in their own languages to describe what was happening.

The aliens themselves claimed to originate from a variety of planets of varying distances from Earth, and referred to themselves as the tall whites.

Professor Stefano Breccia, an engineer and university lecturer living in central Italy and himself deeply involved in the tall whites, has written the best known of these: Mass Contacts,3 With a foreword by Roberto Pinotti, General Secretary of the Italian UFO group Centro Ufologico Nazionale (CUN), the book is primarily the account of the leader of the Italian group: prominent theologian and psychologist Bruno Sammaciccia.

The significance of the tall whites is only just beginning to become apparent to UFO researchers. With hundreds of credible eyewitnesses and an abundance of supporting evidence. Tall Whites are simply in a league of its own as far as “alien” contact is concerned.

In my opinion, it is a major turning point in UFO research and will reverberate for years to come. Far more than any other case that I know of, it may be the equivalent of the Rosetta Stone that helps us put many pieces of the alien jigsaw puzzle into place.

In particular, UFO researchers will see strong evidence supporting the widespread belief that the United States government was contacted officially decades ago by an alien group offering to help us develop spiritually, provided that the US halt its nuclear weapons program.

A number of eyewitnesses and whistleblowers have long claimed that a meeting took place in February 1954, with President Eisenhower being secretly taken to Edwards Air Force Base in California and with other selected persons representing a spectrum of US society present.6 The US, of course, refused to halt its nuclear weapons program, but is also understood to have entered subsequently into treaties and agreements with other alien groups in exchange for advanced technology.

It appears that the Tall White aliens, usually referred to as “Nordics”, were the group who had made the offer to the US government, and therefore the timing of the Tall White contacts is interesting. It suggests that the Tall White, having been rebuffed officially, may have changed their strategy instead to take their message directly to ordinary, but also influential, humans in a wide number of places, beginning two years after the 1954 contact.
Over the course of four decades, the Tall White reportedly conveyed detailed information to the humans, who acted as an interface to spread their concepts among human society. The entire Tall White focus with their human friends was on morality, ethics and friendship—not on technology, which to them was very much secondary.

Tall White Aliens Photo

While there is much that will be familiar to the seasoned researcher, the writings that we have so far are a treasure trove of data and concepts to be mined. Scattered throughout the accounts is substantial information about the Tall White concepts of God, the Universe and the Earth’s history.
A number of claims are especially fascinating and perhaps, in some cases, amenable to verification.

tall white photo

Here is a real life Tall White Aliens Photo

One claim is of particular interest currently. In a 1967 conversation recorded by Breccia, a Tall White crew member mentioned to him that there is another star nearer to Earth than the Centauri stars. At first, the claim seems ridiculous, but scientists recently announced that NASA’s WISE infrared telescope, launched in December 2009, may be close to discovering a brown dwarf star—a binary companion to the Sun—suspected of influencing comets, asteroids and outer planetoids in our solar system.

Another, much publicised, claim concerns the clear, daytime photograph in Breccia’s book of one of the Tall White aliens, casually dressed (see photograph above). The picture was taken by Sammaciccia in the grounds of his villa and shows what is claimed to be an alien by the name of Kenio, who stood as much as three metres (nearly 10 feet) tall! An analysis of the colour image appears to confirm the height. Not all the Tall White aliens were of that height, incidentally: some were even taller, while others were much shorter than an average-height human.
To date, Breccia’s book remains the most accessible source of information on the case and, despite editing shortcomings, it also manages to capture the personalities and sense of humour of those involved, humans and aliens alike. A favourite passage of mine, for example, describes the second physical encounter with some of the aliens in an arranged meeting. It was a spring evening in 1957, in the woods near an old castle near the town of Ascoli Piceno in the central east coast Marche region of Italy.

Bruno Sammaciccia relates:

We were met by the three newcomers-, they approached us, smiling … the first thing Romolo |the name given to one of the aliens| told me, in perfect Italian, was-. “Our dear friends, what were you expecting? To see monsters? Look how handsome we are!”. Much of Sammaciccia’s account centres on Dimpietro, the tall white commander of the main base in Italy. He claimed to have lived at various places on Earth since at least the 17th century and had adapted well to such earthly pleasures as drinking wine and coffee and smoking cigars. When meeting Sammaciccia’s wife Raffaela for the first time, Dimpietro sat on the floor of their apartment kitchen to avoid frightening her with his height. Like others of the alien team, in his long stay here he had mastered not only Italian but also its various dialects and cultural intricacies.

A long history of alien interest

The overall picture painted over four decades of Tall White contacts is a complex one. There are alliances of worlds. There are good, highly ethical, aliens and there are bad aliens. There are some whose agenda is strictly scientific and dispassionate. One group has a particular interest in studying insects, which apparently are a rare form of life in the Universe. Most are physical beings but some are interdimensional, incorporeal entities, such as the purpleskinned “Red” race who are not part of the Tall White group but are allies. Sammaciccia claimed to have interacted with them.

Sammaciccia and the others learned that the Tall White races are not the only visitors coming to Earth: at least six other alien groups are mentioned.

Central to the story are the Weiros—cloned biological robots that are essentially indistinguishable from humans and intent on their own agenda. They are essentially at war with the Tall White group. If their description and activities are any indication, the Weiros, or CTRs as they are usually referred to in Breccia’s book, will likely provide one answer to the “Men in Black” phenomenon. (“CTR” is a sort of acronym coined by Sammaciccia for contrari, or “contrary”).

There is also a definite hierarchy of beings in the Cosmos. The Tall White alien races themselves are overseen by another group which Sammaciccia called the UTI, although he did not record what this name means. The UTI also had human representatives working with them, including an Austrian General.
The visitors have been around since the beginning of the human experience, interacting with us and nudging us forward over aeons of time. According to the Tall White, they and other races have had roles interacting with Earth over untold ages, far longer than our science recognises. Their present mission here is to watch over Earth and our safety. I hope you enjoyed this “Tall White Aliens Photo” post!

Where Is Nasca?

Scientists date the drawings in the era of the Nasca culture (200 BC. To 650 AD.), Which resulted in investigations by the radiocarbon method (C14) and style comparisons of geoglyphs figures on painted vases of Nasca culture , were rediscovered the geoglyphs in 1926 by the Peruvian archaeologist Mejía Xesspe who held the lines, ceques’, ceremonial and religious streets. Meanwhile, “Where Is Nasca?”.

Where Is Nasca?

You maybe wondering Where Is Nasca? Well Nasca is about 435 km south of the Peruvian capital Lima located, on a plateau north of the small town of Nasca, the term “Where Is Nasca?” can be found in the so-called “lines and figures of Nasca”.

Thousands of kilometers of lines, many huge areas, and gigantic animals, plants and geometric figures, called geoglyphs, which are recognized in their entirety only from the air, the cover as “Pampa de Nasca” Marked desert plateau.

A Native of Dresden

Mathematician and geographer Maria Reiche sat the first deals with the proposed Kosok astronomical interpretation of the lines. In 1946 she began initially together with Kosok, with the inventory of the geoglyphs on the Nasca pampa.

She was convinced of the importance of astronomical lines and geoglyphs and therefore tried by systematic surveys and calculations to substantiate the requirement imposed by Kosok astronomical theory. They found, among others a series of lines, often of line centers starting, with the focus on Midsummer data constellations, risings and settings of bright stars and moon lines. Unfortunately, they wrote down the results of 40 years of research only in their personal diaries, not necessarily publish scientifically sufficiently.

One of the significant scientific considerations deals with astronomy and calendar theory. The American historian and archaeologist Paul Kosok who in 1941 stayed in Peru, to explore earlier irrigation systems of the country, the area called Nasca “the largest astronomy book in the world”. He came to this thesis when he, at the time of the winter solstice on 21 June 1941, during his work in the Pampa made the observation that one of the long lines showed almost exactly in the direction of the sunset.

Paul Kosok (June 21, 1941):

“What a find -We immediately realized that we had apparently found the solution to the puzzle.”
[Aveni, A. 2000, p 131]

The first recognized astronomical study in 1969, conducted by Gerald Hawkins, an astronomer at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. As a result of his studies, he came to the conclusion that, due to the low correlation of the total number of lines with the selected positions, the system as a whole have no astronomical background [Hawkins, G. 1969]; the astronomical theory was so long considered irrelevant. However, since his investigations were carried out without a rigorous geodetic, astronomical and especially statistical approach, he earned much international criticism.

A more robust and more reliable examination was performed early 80s by Anthony Aveni. He concluded that astronomical considerations in the creation of the line centers were played a central role into another possible theory. I hope this article helped you in research for finding “Where is Nasca.”

What Conclusion Can Be Drawn About The Nazca Drawings?

On the desert’s sand, in a lost region of Peru, are carved the most impressive and mysterious signs of the earth. What Conclusion Can Be Drawn About The Nazca Drawings?

Between the Pacific and the Andes, over an area of 520 square kilometers have been marked out hundreds of perfectly straight lines, huge geometric drawings and giant-like animals’ pictures. Most of these hieroglyphs are spread over the pampa surface around Nazca. It is a very dry area, where just the complete absence of rain made possible for the modern man to admire such a fascinating and mysterious show.

All the lines and the figures of Nazca have been carved scraping off the rock till digging out the yellow soil underneath the surface. The operation was most probably a handwork, since no evidence of any animal drought has been found.

Nazca lines
Countless lines of variable length and width – some over 8 Kms long, one as long as 65 Kms!! – are spread in all directions and often cross each other in an apparently random manner.
Huge triangles, rectangles and trapeziums evoke images of runways and tarmacs (take a look at the picture!!).

Enormous drawings and other abstract figures are spread all over the lines’ grid togheter with huge prophiles of animals.
The hyerogliphs rising out of the desert are of many kinds: a spider, several birds, a monkey, a whale, a snake, a lama, a flower and a man surrounded by an aura. Some of them are bigger than a soccer field: the lizard is more than 180 meters long. The birds – among others we can spot an humming-bird and a condor – have dimensions that vary from 25 to 275 meters of length.
Besides the drawings there have been found remains of animals’ sacrifices and some woodden poles which are believed to have been used to control the execution of the images.

Most of the Nazca drawings of the animals have been marked out before the simple lines.
The Nazca tribe are believed to be the executors of those mysterious desert-carvings, and the estimated date should be set somewhere between year 500 BC and 500 AD.
This people, who preceded the Incas, did not leave any trace like descendents or written evidence. The reason why the Nazca lines have been marked out is still a mystery.

A fascinating theory claims that the rectangles and the straight lines would be a landing runway for extraterrestrial spacehips, based on the fact that the only way to understand and even see the drawings, or a sense out of them, is with an aerial survey.
The lines cannot be roads, since some of them ends abruptely on top of mountains or on rocks. It has been demonstrated that neither they are set points relating to the horizon.
Maria Reiche, a german astronmist and mathematic of the 40’s, was positive on the fact that the lines and drawings had been marked out to predict the locations of the heaven bodies – the sun, the moon, the planets and the stars – and to determine the right seed-time, the time of the year when the water would come back in the rivers, and the right season for the harvesting.
Through those drawings it was perhaps even possible to determine the solstices and the equinoxes, and the sun and moon eclipses.

What Conclusion Can Be Drawn About The Nazca Drawings?

Two researchers, Horkheimer and Morrison, made up a religious explanation. They believe that each line or runway belonged, or was taken care of by, a certain family – or a group of families – which took care of the cleansing on a regular basis. They also say that close to each of those lines, on the spots of the Spirits often marked by pile of stones or a source or a sacred hill, there would be worshipped the forefathers memory.
The longest lines – the rectangles and the trapeziums – belonged to the whole community, and around them the whole people would gather to celebrate the thanksgiving and adoration rituals in the days sacred for all the Nazca. The animals drawings was meant to be religious symbols.

Due to the big dimensions of the images and the extreme difficulty of their realization many speculation have been made on the system used by the Nazca to obtain such results.
The straight lines could have been marked out quite simply using three woodden poles aligned in a manner called “eye-way”: the first pole as a starting point, the second located about hundred meters away and moved on the side to get aligned with a third pole farther away that would appear to an observer located in the same position as the first.
Unexplainable though, the way the Nazca could be so precise on such long distances: some of the lines divert as little as 2 meters per Km.

A theory claims that the Nazca were able to fly with a kind of prototype of balloon. If that was true – as absurd as it may sound – then the Nazca inspectors, flying all over the working area, could easily control the straightness of the lines, avoiding even the slightest diverting of the direction of the markings.
We have two sources of evidence regarding this theory. The first one is based on the fact that the paintings adorning the crockery found in the area, show images of objects that picture some sort of balloons or kites.
The second source is based upon the fact that at the end of many lines there have been found big rounded “combustion ditches” containing blackened stones, probably used to let the balloon take off, heating the air needed by the system.

Jim Woodman and Julian Knott, members of the International Explorers Club of Coral Gables, Florida, inspired by a drawing found on a Nazca vase, built up a primitve airship. They used materials available for Nazca people, and built up a simple balloon, then named “Condor I”.

In 1975 the airship took off and, even though the two of them fell soon, it kept flying for over twenty minutes, covering 4,8 Kms: this showed the Nazca could have been able to fly!!
